Repeat Prescriptions

When ordering your repeat prescription, please allow up to 48 hours (week days) for it to be printed, signed and ready for collection.

Please telephone for repeat prescriptions after 1.00pm. 

Repeat prescriptions on-line

Using EMIS Access, you can now order repeat prescriptions from home, work or on the move – wherever you can connect to the internet and because EMIS Access is a 24 hour online service – you can do this in your own time, day or night.

For more information on the features of EMIS Access and to register for this service, please come into the surgery with two forms of identification (one item from each of the following lists):

• Personal ID:  Current passport, photocard driving licence, birth certificate etc

AND

• Address ID:   Utility bill, bank statement, council tax etc (with your name, address and dated within the last 6 months).

The receptionist will then print your confidential login information.

All information that is sent to the surgery via EMIS Access is secure. Your personal details are encrypted and protected using the highest standard internet security, so it cannot be intercepted. Only you and Appletree are able to see this information.

By ticking the required drugs on your most recent prescription and then depositing it in the box marked “repeat prescriptions” situated in the waiting room when the Practice is open or posting through the letterbox when closed.

56 day maximum supply

The Department of Health states ………

‘a 28 day repeat prescribing interval is recognised by the NHS as making the best possible balance between patient convenience, good medical practice and minimal drug wastage’.

The majority of patients at Appletree already have their repeat medication supplied either in 28 or 56 day quantities.  We have decided to bring the rest of our patients in line with this.

So, patients who currently have more than 56 days supply of a medication will have their repeat prescription reduced accordingly at the next time of re-order.

The local PCT Medicines management Team is running a Waste Reduction campaign in October/November so we have decided to introduce this policy to coincide with this campaign.

(This will not apply to contraceptive pill or HRT prescriptions.)

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
